E di novembre a Petriolo al bagno

The hot springs at Bagni di Petriolo were considered a resource by the Siena commune as far back as 1200. In the Middle Ages, Petriolo was an early example of economic development, characterised by spa activity and hospitality, later completed with other year-round recreational activities.
Today the ancient springs offer an occasion for spa therapy and relaxation.
The water emerges at 43°C on the banks of the Farma river. The strong sulphurous smell is due to hydrogen sulphide. This gas is beneficial for the respiratory system, the heat is good for muscle tension and the minerals in the water are indicated for oily skin.
The great attraction of the springs lies in their natural setting where one can bathe in the open, in stone pools on the river bank. It is possible to go from hot water to cold, in a natural setting, among the vapours. There is also a small spa centre at Petriolo where treatments such as mud, hot water and hydromassage are available.
