The economy of the Farma-Merse area depended partly on forest resources, as illustrated by the Forest Museum at Orgia.
There were and still are many artisans: blacksmiths, carpenters, basket weavers (willow, olive and chestnut), wickerworkers (chairs and flasks), stonemasons and sculptors of marble and travertine.
There were also many brick kilns,mills and iron smelters.
